RICE FARMERS’ CONSULTATION

The Rice Watch and Action Network (R1) and the National Rice Farmers’ Council (NRFC) held a 2-day consultation at the Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines – Diliman on November 17-18, 2009.

The consultation aimed to provide a venue to unify the small farmers regarding the problems and issues currently besetting the rice industry and their recommendations on how to address these concerns. It also hoped that rice farmer-leaders coming from various farmers’ organizations and cooperatives all over the country will have a united stand and voice in influencing the DA rice master plan and in pushing a comprehensive development agenda for the rice industry.
