GREEN THUMB THESIS AWARD

 

 

A thesis grant shall be awarded to students who wish to focus on the following topics:

Soil improvement benefits of sustainable/organic farming - efficiency of the different types of organic fertilization in the build up of humus; enhancement of beneficial micro organisms and regulation of ph; improvement in the soil structure; effects of the use of IMO on the balance of micro organism population in the soil and environment.

Ecosystem benefits - Outcomes of mixture of multiple and mixed cropping schemes to soil organisms, pest ecosystems and biodiversity; impact of introduced species on diversified farming in the biodiversity and ecosystem.

Health and Nutrition impacts of organic/chemical farming

- documentation on the effects on health and nutrition of people, through reduction of petro chemical fertilizers and pesticide use and lesser exposure to risks associated with pesticide and nitrate contaminated food and water.

3 winners will be selected. Each winner will receive P30,000 for their winning thesis proposals. Advisers of winning students will also get a Ph10,000 prize.
